Jirisan Mountain: Where We Touched the Sky, Walked the Earth, and Felt the Water(하늘,땅,물 을 다 즐긴 지리산 여행기)

One summer day, my friend and I decided to visit Jirisan Mountain.
Jirisan Mountain is the second-highest mountain in South Korea.
Its mascot is the Asiatic black bear, so if you visit Jirisan Mountain, you’ll likely spot illustrations of the bear throughout the area.
My friend and I booked a place to stay in Namwon and set off toward the mountain.
There’s a spot in Jirisan Mountain called Jeongnyeongchi where you can drive up and enjoy the stunning scenery.

That day, a thick fog had settled in, so the view wasn’t very clear — but the mist created a mysterious and dreamy atmosphere.

한 여름 어느날, 친구랑 나는 지리산을 가기로 하였다.
지리산은 대한민국에서 두번쨰로 높은 산이다.
지리산은 반달가슴곰이 마스코트여서 지리산에 방문해보면 반달곰 그림들을 발견할 수 있을 것이다.
나는 친구랑 남원에 숙소를 잡고 지리산으로 출발 하였다.
지리산에는 자동차로 올라가서 아름다운 풍경을 즐길수있는 곳이 존재하는데 바로 "정령치"라는 곳이다.

이날은 안개가 많이 껴있어서 전경은 잘 보이진 않았지만 안개가 신비스러운 분위기를 연출해 주었다.

Clouds were drifting over the mountain peaks, as if they were gently climbing over them.
As we drove down the mountain and began walking along the valley, the weather suddenly cleared up.
I dipped my feet into the stream, and it felt incredibly refreshing.

구름이 산봉우리를 타고 넘어가고있는 모습이다.
차를 타고 산을 내려와 계곡을 따라 걷다보니 날씨가 화창해졌다.
계곡에 발을 담구니 정말로 시원했다.

After returning to our accommodation, we enjoyed a delicious meal of samgyeopsal and took some time to rest.
Later, we headed to Gwanghalluwon, a well-known tourist spot in Namwon.
This place was built during the Joseon Dynasty and is also the setting of the famous Korean classic novel The Tale of Chunhyang.
It has also served as a filming location for movies such as Masquerade and The Sound of a Flower.
Due to our schedule, we visited at night — and luckily, the night admission was free, so we were able to explore the garden without paying an entrance fee.

우리는 숙소에 돌아와 삼겹살을 먹고 각자 휴식을 취하고 남원에 유명한 관광지인 광한루원으로 향하였다.
이곳은 조선시대 때 만들어졌다.
조선 고전 소설 춘향전의 배경이 된곳이도 하다.
또한 이곳은 영화 광해 나 도리화가의 촬영지로 촬영되었다.
우리는 일정상 밤에갔는데 운이 좋게 이곳 야간개장이 무료라 입장료 없이 이곳을 즐겼다.

The name of that stone bridge is Ojakgyo, and there's a local belief that couples who cross it together will enjoy a long and happy relationship.
The bridge is closely tied to the love story of Lee Mong-ryong and Chunhyang, the main characters from the classic Korean tale The Tale of Chunhyang, which draws many visitors.
Beneath the bridge, you can see an incredible number of fish swimming in the stream.

After leaving Gwanghalluwon, we walked over to a nearby stream, where we enjoyed the view of a beautiful bridge and a vibrant fountain show.

저 돌다리의 이름은 오작교인데 부부가 같이 지나가면 금슬이 좋아진다고 한다.
이 다리에는 춘향전에 등장하는 남자주인공 이도령과 여자주인공 춘향의 사랑이 어있어 많은 사람들이 찾는다.
저 다리 밑에는 엄청난수의 물고기가 있다.

우리는 광한루를 나와 시냇물이 흐르는곳에가서 멋진 다리와 분수쇼를 구경하였다.

The next day, we decided to go paragliding near Gokseong, so we headed there.
While we were waiting for our turn, we were incredibly lucky to witness a double rainbow—it was the first time in our lives we'd ever seen one.
It felt as if the sky itself was welcoming us.

다음날 우리는 곡성근처에 있는 패러글라이딩을 타기로 결정하였고 곡성으로 이동하였다.

또한 우리는 패러글라이딩 순서를 기다릴때 정말 운이 좋게 쌍무지개를 봤다.
태어나서 쌍무지개를 처음 본 순간이였다. 아마도 하늘이 우리를 반겨주는것 같다.

At times, it even felt like the clouds were passing by just to give us a high-five.

가끔식은 구름이 우리랑 하이파이브를 하고 지나간다.

Both my friend and I are naturally curious and love trying new things, which is why we decided to go paragliding—something neither of us had ever done before.
At first, we were both nervous, but once we were in the air, it was so thrilling that we knew we would have regretted not trying it.
Whenever we face something new, there’s always a bit of fear and hesitation, maybe even some second thoughts—but once we go through with it, we always feel proud and fulfilled.
Hesitation only delays the moments we’re meant to enjoy.

친구와 나는 정말로 호기심이 많아서 새로운 경험을 하는것을 좋아했기 때문에 우리 둘다 처음인 패러글라이딩을 타기로 한 것이다.
처음에는 둘다 떨려했지만 안타면 후회 해볼정도로 패러글라이딩을 즐겼다.
언제나 새로운 도전을 할때는 떨리고 괜스레 후회도 하긴하지만 막상 하고나면 기분이 좋고 뿌듯함도 생긴다.
주저함은 즐길수있는 순간을 늦출 뿐이다.
