Walking Through My Memories in Daejeon (대전에서의 추억)

This time, I’d like to write about my memories of living in Daejeon in 2024.
During my time there, I bought a bicycle and used it not only for commuting but also for traveling around the city.
So, most of the places I’ll introduce here are ones I visited by bike.

이번글은 2024년에 내가 살았던 대전에서의 나의 추억에 대해서 써볼려 한다.
나는 대전에서 자전거를 구매하여 자전거를 타고 출퇴근도하고 여행도 다녔다.
따라서 지금 보여주는 장소들은 대부분 자전거를 타고 여행한것이다.

The first memorable place is Daejeon Expo Park.
One of the symbols of Daejeon, the Hanbit Tower, is located in this park.
It was built for the Daejeon Expo in 1993 and was designed to resemble the Cheomseongdae Observatory in Gyeongju.
The tower is made of exactly 1,993 bricks, symbolizing the year of the expo.
In front of the tower stands “Kumdori,” the official mascot of the Expo.

첫번쨰 추억의 장소는 대전 엑스포 공원이다.
1993대전 엑스포를 위해서 지어진 대전의 상징중 하나인 한빛탑도 공원에 있다.
이 한빛탑은 경주 첨성대를 모방하여 지어졌고 1993개의 벽돌로 이루어져있다.
그리고 탑앞에는 엑스포 마스코트인 "꿈돌이"가 있다.

Next to the park is Shinsegae Department Store, where I had a meal and then went up to the rooftop to enjoy the night view of Daejeon.

공원옆에는 신세계 백화점이 있어 밥을 먹고 옥상에 올라가 대전 야경을 감상하였다.

The second memorable place is Ppuri Park.
While I was looking at a map wondering where to go next by bike, I discovered a unique park.
It’s a place where you can find the Genealogy Museum and statues representing different Korean family names.
After arriving there by bike and crossing the bridge over the river, I was greeted by a wide open lawn.

두번째 추억의 장소는 뿌리공원이다.

자전거를 타고 어디를 갈까 지도를 보고있는 도중 독특한 공원을 발견하였다.

족보박물관 과 각 성씨의 동상도 확인 할수있는 공원이였다.
자전거를 타고 도착하고 강 위 다리를 건넜을때 눈앞에 넓은 잔디밭이 보였다.

As I walked across the grass, I saw a beautiful cliff on one side and statues on the other.
I decided to look for the statue of my own family name, Seo, first.
Thanks to the signs, it didn’t take long to find it.

잔디를 가로 질러 걷다보면 한쪽에는 멋진 절벽이 있고 다른 쪽에는 동상들이 있었다.
나는 먼저 나의 성씨인 서씨를 찾기로 결정하였다.
표지판이 있어 금방찾았다

I was surprised to see how many family names exist in Korea.

한국에 이렇게 성씨가 많은지 몰랐다.

This is the statue of my family name, Seo.
Each statue has the history of its corresponding family name written on it.
I think this park is called Ppuri Park (which means "Root Park") because it allows people to learn about the origins of their family names.

이게 나의 성씨인 서씨 동상이다.

동상에는 각 성씨의 역사가 쓰여있다.

이 공원은 자신의 성씨의 역사를 알수있어서 뿌리 공원이라 불리는 것 같다.

On the opposite side of the lawn, across from the statues, there's a beautiful cliff.

In front of the cliff runs a small river, where I saw many ducks swimming around.
If you pay a fee, you can also ride a duck boat to get a closer view of both the cliff and the ducks.

그리고 잔디밭기준 동상있는 반대편에는 멋진 절벽이있다.

절벽앞에는 작은 강이 있는데 오리가 상당히 많았다.

또한 비용을 지불하면 오리배를 타서 절벽과 오리를 좀더 가까이 볼수있다.

Since parking and admission are free and there are many things to see,
I highly recommend visiting this place if you ever come to Daejeon.

이곳은 주차와 입장료가 무료고 볼 것이 많기때문에 대전에 왔을때 이곳 한번 오는것도 좋을것 같다.

The third memorable place is Daecheong Lake, the third-largest lake in South Korea.
I visited the lake the day after heavy rain, so there were almost no people around.
That allowed me to fully focus on the sounds of nature and enjoy a peaceful moment all to myself.
There are also many cozy cafés and restaurants nearby, making it a perfect spot to visit with someone you love.

세번째 추억의 장소는 대한민국에서 3번째 규모의 호수인 대청호이다.

나는 비가 많이온 다음날에가서 사람이 없었다.

그래서 나는 자연의 소리에 더욱 집중할 수 있었서 온전한 나만의 시간을 가졌다.

근처 분위기 좋은 카페나 식당이 많기 때문에 사랑하는 사람이랑 오기에 딱 좋다.
