📍 Tokyo – Where Tradition Meets the City
Tokyo is such a fascinating city.
Right in the middle of towering skyscrapers, you’ll find places where tradition still breathes.
Even in the busiest streets, there are quiet gardens hidden away.
That balance between old and new was what impressed me the most on this trip.
도쿄는 정말 신기한 도시다.
고층 빌딩 숲 한가운데에도 전통이 살아 숨 쉬고, 번잡한 거리 한 켠에도 고요한 정원이 숨겨져 있다.
그 묘한 공존이 이번 여행에서 가장 인상 깊었다.
🏯 Tokyo Imperial Palace – The Residence of the Emperor
Just a short walk from Tokyo Station is the Imperial Palace, where the Emperor of Japan resides.
At first, I thought it was just another park, but as I got closer, the atmosphere shifted—it felt weighty, almost sacred.
The first thing I saw was a statue of a samurai on horseback.
Surrounded by modern office buildings, it strangely fits while also standing out.
도쿄역에서 조금만 걸으면 고쿄(皇居), 일본 천황의 거처가 나온다.
처음엔 그냥 공원 같은 줄 알았는데, 막상 도착해보니 분위기가 묵직했다.
첫 번째로 마주한 건 말을 탄 사무라이 동상.
현대식 건물들 사이에서 묘하게 어울리면서도, 존재감이 확실했다.
🏰 The Iconic Bridge and Guardhouse
A little further in, I came across the iconic bridge of the Imperial Palace.
It’s the spot where most tourists stop to take pictures.
Beyond the bridge, you can catch a glimpse of the traditional guardhouse and lush greenery.
It’s one of those places where just standing still feels meaningful.
조금 더 안쪽으로 들어가면 고쿄의 상징 같은 다리가 나온다.
많은 관광객들이 다리 앞에서 기념사진을 찍고 있었고, 나도 그 무리에 섞여 셔터를 눌렀다.
멀리 보이는 성루와 울창한 나무들이 절로 고개를 들게 만든다.
조용히 서 있기만 해도, 시간이 느리게 흐르는 기분이다.
🌳 Shinjuku Gyoen Park – A Quiet Retreat in the Rain
We moved to Shinjuku Gyoen Park after visiting the Imperial Palace.
It started to rain lightly as I entered, but that only made the place more peaceful.
There were barely any people around, and the sound of raindrops on leaves felt calming.
Walking along the wet gravel paths, I felt like I was in a different world.
우리는 고쿄를 보고난후 신주쿠 교엔이라는 공원으로 이동하였다
비가 조금씩 내리고 있었지만, 오히려 그 덕분에 분위기는 더 깊어졌다.
사람도 거의 없었고, 빗소리가 마음을 차분하게 만들어주었다.
촉촉한 자갈길을 따라 걷다 보니, 마치 다른 세상에 온 듯한 기분이 들었다.
🌲 A Garden from a Painting
Deeper inside the garden, I stumbled upon views that looked like they were straight out of a painting.
Perfectly shaped bushes, small bridges, and a still pond surrounded by trees.
It’s hard to believe such a quiet space exists in the middle of Tokyo.
정원 안쪽으로 더 들어가면 마치 그림에서 튀어나온 듯한 풍경이 펼쳐진다.
둥글게 다듬어진 나무, 작은 다리, 그리고 잔잔한 연못까지.
이렇게 고요한 장소가 도쿄 한복판에 있다는 게 믿기지 않을 정도였다.
🏙 Back to the City – Skyscrapers from the Palace Grounds
As I turned around to leave, the contrast was striking.
From the peaceful garden, I was suddenly staring at rows of skyscrapers.
Tokyo’s buildings each have their own unique character, making you keep looking at them.
The blend of nature and city life is something Tokyo pulls off effortlessly.
정원을 나와 고개를 돌리면 갑자기 현대적인 풍경이 펼쳐진다.
조용한 정원에서 몇 발자국만 걸었을 뿐인데, 빽빽하게 들어선 빌딩들이 눈앞에 가득하다.
도쿄 빌딩들은 저마다의 개성을 갖추고있어 계속 보게된다.
자연과 도시가 이렇게 공존할 수 있다는 것이 도쿄의 매력 중 하나인 것 같다.
🚦 Shibuya Scramble – Organized Chaos
After that , I made my way to Shibuya.
From above, the famous scramble crossing looks like organized chaos.
The moment the lights turn green, hundreds of people move all at once, only to disappear into different directions.
Neon lights, giant screens, and a buzz that never stops—it’s Tokyo at full energy.
그후 시부야에 도착했다.
위에서 내려다본 스크램블 교차로는 혼돈 속의 질서 그 자체였다.
신호가 바뀌는 순간 수백 명이 동시에 움직이고, 다시 제 갈 길로 흩어진다.
네온사인과 전광판, 끝없이 이어지는 사람들의 발걸음.
이곳이야말로 도쿄의 에너지가 가장 뿜어져 나오는 장소였다.
✍️ Final Thoughts – A City Made for Wandering Alone
Tokyo is a city where walking alone never feels lonely.
Whether it’s in a quiet garden or a crowded crossing, the city gives you space to just be.
The overcast weather added to the mood, making the whole experience feel calm yet alive.
Next time, I want to join a guided tour inside the Imperial Palace and maybe see the garden again on a sunny day.
도쿄는 혼자 걸어도 전혀 외롭지 않은 도시다.
조용한 정원이든, 북적이는 교차로든, 그 안에서 그냥 ‘존재’할 수 있게 해준다.
흐린 날씨는 오히려 분위기를 더 깊게 만들어주었고, 전반적인 경험은 잔잔하면서도 생생했다.
다음에 오게 된다면, 고쿄 내부 가이드 투어도 신청해보고, 정원엔 맑은 날 다시 와보고 싶다.
Tokyo, with its blend of nature and city, left quite an impression on me.
And this was only part of the journey.
