영국에서 로마시대의 목욕탕을 볼 수 있다는 놀라운 소식을 듣고 나는 바로 그것을 보러
Bath Spa 역으로 향하였다.
Hearing the surprising news that you can see Roman-era baths in the UK, I immediately headed to Bath Spa Station to see them.
바스 수도원(Bath Abbey)
로만 바스로 가는 길에 로만 바스 입구 광장에 멋진 바스 수도원 있다.건물 정면 양쪽 기둥을 보면 천사들이 사다리를 타고 하늘로 올라가고 내려오는 모습이 조각되어 있다. 이는 15세기 말 올리버 킹 주교가 꿈에서 본 환상을 바탕으로 디자인이 되었기 떄문이다.
Bath Abbey
On the way to the Roman Baths, in the entrance plaza, stands the magnificent Bath Abbey. If you look at the columns on both sides of the building's facade, you can see sculptures of angels ascending and descending a ladder to heaven. This design was based on a vision that Bishop Oliver King had in a dream in the late 15th century.

I highly recommend booking in advance, especially if you visit on a weekend. Without a reservation, the waiting line can be quite long, and you might not be able to tour at your desired time.

Going further in, you can see the hot spring that was used as a bath in the past.
이곳을 목욕탕으로 정한이유는 영국내에서 거의 유일하게 천연 온천수가 솟아오르기 때문이다.

솟아오른 온천수는 아래 통로를 따라 메인 목욕탕으로 향한다.
The reason this place was chosen as a bathhouse is that it is almost the only place in the UK where natural thermal water wells up. Those bubbles in the water are a sign that hot spring water is still gushing out even today. The rising thermal water flows along the lower channel toward the main bath.
그리고 2층에 있는 동상은 브리타니아(영국)를 통치했던 로마 황제들과 군사 지도자들(율리우스 카이사르, 클라우디우스, 하드리아누스 등)을 묘사했다고 한다.
보이는 기둥과 동상은 19세기 빅토리아 시대 떄 증축되었다고 한다,
과거 로마시대때는 지붕이 있어 위에 보이는 온천이 실내였다고한다.
로마시대의 유물이나 발굴품은 실내에 전시되어있다.
Additionally, the statues on the second floor depict Roman emperors and military leaders who ruled Britannia (Britain), such as Julius Caesar, Claudius, and Hadrian. The columns and statues you see today were added during the Victorian era in the 19th century. In ancient Roman times, there was a roof, making the bath pictured above an indoor space.

기억에 제일 남는 유물은 누군가가 자신의 물건을 훔쳐가 저주하는 편지를 납 위에 기록한것이었다.
과거 로마인들은 동전,편지 등 다양한 물건을 온천에 던졌다고 한다.
이 온천은 오디오 가이드 들으면서 천천히 돌면 1시간 30분에서 2시간이 걸린다.
나는 이 온천을 관광하면서 놀랐던건 현대의 목욕탕이랑 큰 차이가 없었다는 점이다.
헬스장, 온탕.냉탕 그리고 찜질방까지 그 시대 목욕탕에 존재했다,
마지막으로 온천수를 맛볼수 있는 음수대가 있으니 새로운 경험을 좋아한다면 한번 맛을 보는 것을 추천한다.(개인적으로 그렇게 좋은 맛은 아니었다)
The most memorable artifact was a curse tablet written on lead, where someone cursed a thief who had stolen their belongings. Ancient Romans are said to have thrown various items into the thermal waters, including coins and letters.
Taking your time with the audio guide, it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to walk around the baths. What surprised me most while touring was that it wasn't much different from modern bathhouses. Gyms, hot baths, cold baths, and even saunas existed in the bathhouses of that era.
Finally, there is a drinking fountain where you can sample the thermal water. If you enjoy new experiences, I recommend giving it a try (personally, I didn't think it tasted that great!).

Netflix 인기 드라마 《브리저튼(Bridgerton)》에서 페더링턴 가문의 저택 외관 촬영지로 널리 알려져 있는 곳이다.The Royal Crescent is widely known as the exterior filming location for the Featherington family's residence in the popular Netflix series Bridgerton. There is also a wide park in front of it, making it a great spot for a picnic if the weather is nice.
